Accessibility Statement

Pure Roots Botanicals is committed to making our website usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. We treat accessibility as an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time project, and we welcome feedback from anyone who runs into a barrier on the site.

Standard we target

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and is the standard most US and EU regulations reference, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508.

What we do to meet that standard

• Semantic structure. Headings, landmarks, lists, and tables are marked up so screen readers can navigate them in a meaningful order.
• Keyboard navigation. Every interactive element — menus, forms, the cart, the product gallery, the store-locator map cards — can be reached and operated using the keyboard alone.
• Visible focus. Focus rings are preserved on links, buttons, and form fields so keyboard users can always tell where they are on the page.
• Color contrast. Body text and key interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG AA 4.5:1 contrast ratio against their backgrounds.
• Alt text on imagery. Product photos, lab-report thumbnails, and editorial images carry descriptive alternative text. Decorative imagery is hidden from screen readers with aria-hidden.
• Form labels and error messages. Every form field is paired with a label, and validation errors are announced to assistive technology.
• Responsive layout. Pages reflow cleanly down to 320 px wide and remain usable when text is zoomed up to 200%.
• Reduced motion. Animations respect prefers-reduced-motion and are kept short by default.

Known limitations

Some parts of the site rely on third-party components that we do not fully control. We work around their limitations where possible and flag the ones we are still improving:

• Embedded YouTube player on the About page uses YouTube's own controls, which have keyboard support but some screen-reader users may find the labels terse.
• Map markers on the store locator are click-targets first; a keyboard user can reach the equivalent store via the card list directly below the map, which we treat as the primary interface.
• Older lab-report PDFs uploaded before our move to tagged PDFs may not be fully screen-reader friendly. We are re-issuing them as we receive new batches.

If you hit a barrier that is not listed above, please tell us. We treat new reports as bugs and prioritize them alongside other production issues.

How to report an accessibility issue

If something on this site is hard or impossible to use, please reach out. Include the page URL, the device and browser you were using, and a short description of what went wrong. We aim to respond within two business days.

Formal complaints

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the US Department of Justice under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Information on how to do that is available on the ADA.gov complaint page.

How this statement is maintained

This statement was last reviewed on June 1, 2026. We re-review it at least annually and whenever we make a significant change to the site. The team responsible is the same one that builds and maintains this website; there is no separate accessibility office to route through.
