You can't smell how a jar was grown, but you can check it. Pure Roots Botanicals grows its flower on its own farm in Waxhaw, North Carolina, certified USDA organic by CCOF. For your jar, that means the organic claim isn't ours alone: CCOF inspects the farm on site every year.
“We don't have to spray, even organic.”
We grow indoors in living soil, not hydro, where roots sit in water instead of soil. Our post on how THCA flower is grown walks through each step. Certification means no prohibited synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and we go one step further: we don't spray our flower with pesticides, organic or not.
Our flower is cryo-cured. That keeps each bud's natural structure, without the shrinking and hardening of traditional curing. Expect lighter, fluffier buds than you may be used to. That's the cure doing its job.
Every strain page links its lab report, a certificate of analysis (COA), as a PDF. Some come from Delta 9 Analytical, an outside lab in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Basics
THCA flower is hemp flower rich in THCA, short for tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. In the raw bud, THCA isn't intoxicating. Heat changes that. When you smoke, vape or bake the flower, much of the THCA sheds carbon dioxide and becomes Delta-9 THC. That step is called decarboxylation.
That step is why the THCA number on each strain matters: it tells you how much THC the flower can make once it's heated. Our complete THCA explainer goes deeper on the chemistry. For choosing a jar, though, the number comes second, and the checklist below shows what comes first.
Before You Buy
These five checks work at any shop, ours included.
"Organic" means more when a named certifier and an ID number back it. Find both, then look up the ID yourself. The FAQ below shows how to check ours.
Find total THC: (THCA × 0.877) + Delta-9 THC. The 0.877 allows for the weight THCA loses as it becomes THC, and most reports print the total for you. It puts every strain on one scale, so you can compare a high-THCA jar with a low one fairly. "ND" on a report means not detected: the test found less than it can measure.
The jar you keep reaching for is the one you love the smell of. That smell comes from terpenes, the plant's scent compounds, plus other trace compounds. Shortlist by note, then compare numbers.
Cryo-cured buds stay fluffy, so a jar can look less full than dense flower of the same weight. We weigh every jar before the humidity pack goes in, so trust the scale, not your eyes.

Today's federal definition of hemp comes from the 2018 Farm Bill: no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight.
December 11, 2026
On December 11, 2026, a new definition applies to THCA products. It keeps the 0.3% limit but counts total THC, including THCA. It also caps finished hemp-derived cannabinoid products at 0.4 mg of total THC per container, far less than one 10 mg gummy.

Yes. Smoking or vaping THCA flower turns THCA into Delta-9 THC, and a standard drug test looks for what your body makes from THC, called metabolites. As our THCA vs THC breakdown explains, the test can't tell hemp from marijuana, so hemp's legal status won't change your result. If you're tested for work, sport or the military, skip THCA flower.
Yes, once it's heated. Raw THCA isn't intoxicating, but smoking or vaping turns it into Delta-9 THC, the same intoxicating THC found in marijuana.
